Recently, I had the privilege of attending Blogfest and IDEA WORLD Fitness Convention which is where thousands of fitness enthusiasts from all over the country (and world) gather to learn and be inspired. Blogfest is a convention within the IDEA World convention specifically for bloggers. This was my 4th year attending and each year I have come away with something different. You can see the highlights from previous years here, here and here
We stayed at the Machester Grand Hyatt in San Diego and it was pretty wonderful. I mean, just look at this view from the room.
Every day this seagull just hung out on the window ledge. Well, I’m not sure if it was the same seagull every day but it was so cute!
Every year, we are honored to listen to some amazing speakers. Last year, we had the pleasure of listening to Todd Durkin. His passion is contagious and is one of the most inspiring people I have ever met. I was afraid no one would compare to him but I was very pleased with the ladies this year. Each one brought something special and relatable to the table.
Because I have so much to share and don’t want this to turn into a very long post I am breaking it up into sections.
Here is Part 1.
Petra Kolber spoke to us first and she had some very relatable things to share. Here are some of my favorite statements from her and how I relate:
It’s not about how many followers you have, its how you make them feel.
I don’t know about you but sometimes I feel intimidated by the amount of followers on social media some people. How are we making people feel? Isn’t that more important than the numbers?
People do not relate to perfect
How many times do you get frustrated with all the “perfect” people online to the point of feeling bad about yourself? ” I wish I had a body like hers” or “I wish my life was that great”
I always find it refreshing when I come across people who share their struggles and not so perfect moments of their life. It’s relatable and encouraging. And you know what? Others feel the same way. People always relate to someone who is real like them.
What is your ER that needs CPR?
For some reason we tend to believe we need to be thinER, smartER youngER, etc.
I AM ENOUGH
What if we believed we are enough? Just the way we are.
FEAR: Forget everything and run or face everything and rise
I could not count how many times I ran away from something out of fear.
Don’t wait for the “perfect” moment
I feel like I have been living my whole life waiting until things are perfect to do anything. I remember when I wanted to become a personal trainer over a decade ago but kept putting it off until I was in “perfect” shape. Well, that never happened. I eventually became a trainer; I had to accept the fact that waiting for the perfect moment was pointless. If we wait for perfection, we will wait forever!
Remember the world wants and desires your imperfection! (note to self)
That’s all for now. 🙂 Have a great day!
