“Be Unapologetically You” – Blogfest 2018 (part 2)

Welcome to part 2 of IDEA WORLD Blogfest Highlights 🙂 Today I’m sharing the inspiration I received from the amazing Heidi Powell.

A little about Heidi: Heidi Powell is the ultimate female force. She is a trainer, transformation specialist, devoted wife, mother of four, savvy businesswoman, author, nutrition nut, and overall health guru. Heidi became a fixture in America’s living room as she worked side-by-side husband Chris Powell on ABC’s hit show, “Extreme Weight Loss.” (yes I just copied this info. from her website)  Read more about Heidi here 🙂

Here are some of my favorites:

They don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care

Would you rather work with someone who knows everything or someone who cares about you? I have always got caught with “I need to know more” mindset; I can’t start sharing or blogging about wellness/fitness until I have read this many books or have this many certifications. Although education is very important in this field, caring is more important. Hearing Heidi talk about this was a reminder to myself to focus of my passion of helping people instead of waiting until I “know it all”

Comparison is the thief of Joy

When is the last time you compared yourself to someone? In person or online. I can’t tell you how many times I have. It’s so easy to fall into that trap of comparison. But not at the expense of our joy.

Embrace Failure

Why are we so afraid of failure? Take risks, do things you might not be the best at. Comfort is the thief of progress. Yes, Heidi, yes!

And now the best one of all:

This one really shouted out loud to me because I struggle with it most. Just be yourself. That should be easy. Well, it is if you’re not worried about what others are thinking.  Sometimes I think people do not know the real me because I don’t let them see who I really am in fear of disapproval. Why do I allow that to hold me back? BE YOU!!!

Here’s to being unapologetically me. Flaws and all. Thank you Heidi. 🙂

“Perfection Detox” – Blogfest 2018 (Part 1)

Hey Friends,

Recently, I had the privilege of attending Blogfest and IDEA WORLD Fitness Convention which is where thousands of fitness enthusiasts from all over the country (and world) gather to learn and be inspired. Blogfest is a convention within the IDEA World convention specifically for bloggers. This was my 4th year attending and each year I have come away with something different. You can see the highlights from previous years here, here and here

We stayed at the Machester Grand Hyatt in San Diego and it was pretty wonderful. I mean, just look at this view from the room.

Every day this seagull just hung out on the window ledge. Well, I’m not sure if it was the same seagull every day but it was so cute!

Every year, we are honored to listen to some amazing speakers. Last year, we had the pleasure of listening to Todd Durkin. His passion is contagious and is one of the most inspiring people I have ever met. I was afraid no one would compare to him but I was very pleased with the ladies this year. Each one brought something special and relatable to the table.

Because I have so much to share and don’t want this to turn into a very long post I am breaking it up into sections.

Here is Part 1.

Petra Kolber spoke to us first and she had some very relatable things to share. Here are some of my favorite statements from her and how I relate:

It’s not about how many followers you have, its how you make them feel.

I don’t know about you but sometimes I feel intimidated by the amount of followers on social media some people. How are we making people feel? Isn’t that more important than the numbers?

People do not relate to perfect

How many times do you get frustrated with all the “perfect” people online to the point of feeling bad about yourself? ” I wish I had a body like hers” or “I wish my life was that great”

I always find it refreshing when I come across people who share their struggles and not so perfect moments of their life. It’s relatable and encouraging. And you know what? Others feel the same way. People always relate to someone who is real like them.

What is your ER that needs CPR?

For some reason we tend to believe we need to be thinER, smartER youngER, etc.

What if we believed we are enough? Just the way we are.

FEAR: Forget everything and run or face everything and rise

I could not count how many times I ran away from something out of fear.

Don’t wait for the “perfect” moment

I feel like I have been living my whole life waiting until things are perfect to do anything. I remember when I wanted to become a personal trainer over a decade ago but kept putting it off until I was in “perfect” shape. Well, that never happened. I eventually became a trainer; I had to accept the fact that waiting for the perfect moment was pointless. If we wait for perfection, we will wait forever!

Remember the world wants and desires your imperfection! (note to self)

That’s all for now. 🙂 Have a great day!

2014 Highlights

Happy New Year!

How are you? As excited as I am to get this new year started, I’d like to take this time to reflect on 2014. There have been some years, I look back and realize I didn’t accomplish a lot and then I realize that maybe I didn’t get everything on my list done but there is still so much to be proud of. I am definitely proud of myself this year. Continue reading

IDEA World Blogfest was what I needed

It was just over a week ago that I was learning and surrounded by positive people and motivation. I miss it.

As I said in my previous post, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to go for financial  reasons but I set aside my worries and went! As a mom, we tend to put everyone before us which is great but sometimes we forget about ourselves. I don’t know how many times I wanted something but put it on the back burner because financial or family obligations didn’t allow it. Even when it’s something I know would benefit my business.  I realized that even if the timing isn’t right, investing in yourself can be one of the best things you can do for you and your family.

As a personal trainer, I work with moms who are in the same boat. Putting their fitness goals on the back burner. I do admire those moms who work full-time and take of their families but sometimes I see them burnt out and unhappy with their fitness results. Why? Because it’s not made a priority. When I see them putting their fitness first, they are much happier. When they are happy with themselves, they are able to be better wives, moms, friends, employees, etc.

Long story short, I am so happy with the decision I made to attend IDEA world blogfest. It was exactly what I needed. Just at the right time.  I felt like we were given the special treatment. From awesome classes like yoga and piyo to inspirational speakers to all the freebies we received. Let me show you what I got.

Special thanks to Lorna Jane for these cute gifts. As soon as I arrived, this lovely pink tank top was sitting on the table for the attendees.  They came in different colors. Since I like to wear pink I made sure to sit at a table with this one 🙂 I look forward to wearing the cute black visor and headband. Continue reading

IDEA World 2014

Hi There!

I’m excited to share my IDEA world fitness convention experience with you today. This was my first year attending. I have been wanting to go for years but I have not been able to afford it. It is always around the time my kids go back to school and need school clothes so its hard to come up with the extra money. This year, I was determined to make it no matter what. Money was still tight and I was afraid of leaving my kids all day but I went through with it and I’m so glad I did.

IDEA world is the fitness convention of all fitness conventions. It is for personal trainers, group instructors and anyone passionate about fitness. This year they added something new called Blogfest. It was two days of everything you need to know about blogging. Since I just started my blog, I figured it was perfect. And it was!

So here I am arriving bright and early Thursday morning.
